Byre Canada, London, Ontario

Licences, insurance, and project responsibilities.

Project-specific requirements are confirmed before work begins and licensed outside trades are coordinated where required.

Insurance and regulated work

Byre carries general liability insurance, is registered with WSIB (the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) for work performed in Ontario, is a registered business with the Ontario Business Registry, and is registered for GST/HST with the Canada Revenue Agency. Byre confirms project specific requirements before work begins. Where a project involves regulated trades such as electrical, plumbing, gas or structural engineering, Byre coordinates appropriately licensed contractors and remains the single point of accountability for the project.

Permits

Some work requires a municipal building permit. Byre identifies permit requirements during the estimate and handles or supports the application as agreed in the written scope.

What to ask any contractor

  • Are you insured, and can you show the certificate?
  • Who is doing the regulated portions of the work?
  • What exactly is included and excluded in the price?
  • How are changes priced and approved?

More on this in questions to ask before hiring a contractor.
